The Dog Ate My Work From Home Business

I have been providing Internet marketing services for almost 5 years now and I would say about 70% or more of my customers are in the home business industry. What I mean by that is they are marketing specific products or services to prospects who are looking for a home business opportunity or way of making money online. You know what I am talking about, affiliate marketing programs, direct sales, network marketing and MLM opportunities.

There are thousands of opportunities on the web and it seems some of my customers have tried them all. Sometimes this is because they jump from program to program about every two months (when the last one failed to make them rich) hoping the new recently launched opportunity will be the one that "works."

Unfortunately, the other reason many budding entrepreneurs can never seem to get grounded in an established opportunity with real money making potential is because the program falls flat after a year or so and the founder moves on to something else. Typical excuses why most fail in this business range from "My upline would not return my calls" to "I tried it for 2 weeks and it is a scam."

Whatever the excuse the reason why so many fail in the home business industry is because of unreasonable expectations fed by over-hyped sales copy and opportunities that could not care less about the success of their affiliates.

Jaguar Marketing System - Is it Effective Or Not?

What is the Jaguar Marketing System, and is it really as good as advertised? Like any other network marketing company out there, it promises the world, but does it deliver?

Before I start, you should know that I am not a distributor for jaguar marketing, and therefore you don't have to take what you hear with a grain of salt, since I'm not trying to get you to join. This system was actually fairly recently developed, and you might actually know it by its' former name, Predator Marketing. It started in two thousand and six, and it's in the direct selling industry, meaning the company sells its' products via independent distributors, who get paid commissions each sale.

What products does the Jaguar Marketing System sell? As is typical of network marketing type companies, this question is secondary to the actual opportunity being promoted. Most people sign up for the opportunity, not the product.

If they do purchase the product, it's only because they want to start making money right away, and not have to pass up any sales. The product is actually how to make money with real estate, and it comes with two other training courses. It retails for four thousand dollars, much more than you would pay without the opportunity.

Don't get me wrong, the products are decent, but they are nowhere near the price tag, and they are able to sell it at this price for the opportunity. What is the compensation plan for the Jaguar Marketing System? It's actually a one up system, meaning you have to pass up your first sale to your sponsor. After that, one hundred percent of the commission is yours.

This is not one of the better comp plans, in my experience. For one thing, you are passing up a lot of money by giving up that first sale, something that many simply can't afford to do. Many people who come into these systems need the money ASAP, and by giving up their first sale, they are leaving a lot of money on the table, not to mention spending a lot of money to make that sale. It's not uncommon to be thousands of dollars in the hole before you make your first paid sale, something that many simply can't afford to do.

Also, you only benefit from the first sale from those you bring in, and after this you get nothing from their efforts. Therefore, it takes a huge down line to make a lot of money from them.
How do you market the Jaguar Marketing System? You can either generate your own leads or get them generated for you.

Having them generated for you can either be more or less expensive, depending on how good of a marketer you are. If you are a great marketer, it will be much pricier. However, if you've never marketed before, you might want to have your leads generated for you, at least at first.
The truth is, you definitely should not use the generic company website you are given upon joining, as there are hundreds if not thousands of others trying to market that same exact site. This is a sure formula for disaster. Instead, you should develop your own Jaguar Marketing System website and market it. You can then drive traffic via SEO or market it offline.

Whether you like Jack or not, or don't even know him, you may be asking, "What in the world does this have to do with my job search?" Well, read on and I will explain.

There are several basic principles involved in how the character of Jack Bauer operates during any investigation. Employing these principles, in a somewhat less extreme format, in your job search can lead to astounding results.

Gather Intelligence

The first step in the process, and the one that many skip entirely, is to conduct some research on the market you are interested in. This includes learning about the players involved, their financial status, the geographies they serve, and other information that will help you identify the organizations you can target during your search.

Furthermore, try to find the names of people within those organizations that may be a decision maker or influencer to the hiring process. You can also try to obtain the names and contact information for others within the organization that may be able to refer or introduce you to the hiring manager.

Leverage Your Resources

Like Jack Bauer, you want to use all the resources at your disposal to help you with your search. He doesn't save the world all by himself. He gets help from lots of people along the way. Some of these folks are those you would expect him to get help from, such as other personnel from other government agencies, while others are very unlikely sources of assistance. Consider all of your resources, and don't discount people from your arsenal just because they don't fit the typical mold of those you would expect help from.

Go On the Offensive

An all-out attack of these organizations is called for. Send them your resume by mail, post it to their website, email it to any contacts there, find recruiters that have relationships with them, and try cold calling the hiring manager directly to get an opportunity to explain what you have to offer them. Too many candidates are way too passive in this area of the search. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there and go outside your comfort level. This is your career we are talking about here. Can you really be satisfied with anything but the best?

Think of it as a life-and-death situation like Jack Bauer does. You must be willing to do whatever it takes to be successful in your search. The results will be most rewarding.

The Successful Job Search - Separate Yourself From the Competition

Picture this: we've got a hotel ballroom full of salespeople attending some sort of regional industry event. Let's say they're all software salespeople. And because it's a regional meeting, it's safe to assume most (if not all) of these people are based in one geographic area.

Now - suppose we have a job opening for a Regional Sales Manager responsible for moving B2B Procurement/Marketplace software. This might be a good place to find that candidate.
In one sense, everyone in the room is essentially the same. For example, they're all selling software, they're located in the same market, and their job responsibilities are very similar.
It's conceivable, therefore, that every single person here could qualify (on paper) for the job.

What's going to make one of them stand out from all the rest?

What's going to make the difference - and win the job offer?

Obviously, this is an exaggeration. Not everybody in the room is going to qualify. But I think you get my point.

The person who knows how to differentiate himself or herself from the sea of candidates who, on the surface, look very similar, is the one who will have a better chance at success.

It starts with your resume.

When 200 people submit their resumes for that Regional Sales Manager position, on some level, they're obviously going to look very similar. So we have 200 resumes that all resemble one another, yet only a handful are going to receive an invitation to interview.

What is it about those six resumes that's going to make the difference? Why these and not the others?

Likewise, when those six people come in to meet with senior management, it's safe to assume there will be parallels between their employment experiences. What's going to make one stand out over the others?

What about you? What do you do? Business Development...Marketing...Sales...Financial Analysis...Systems Engineering...Logistics Management?

Whatever it is, you've got to know how to separate yourself from the competition. You need to understand specifically what makes you unique, and how to convey that message to the hiring manger.

Of course other factors have an impact once you get to the interview stage. Performance under pressure, preparation - other issues are at play. But at the core, differentiation is key. Your chances of making it to the interview aren't good if you haven't done a good job conveying your uniqueness in your resume.

Take the time to identify what's distinctive about you - then encapsulate it into a succinct branding statement. That's the basis for everything else you'll do to market yourself.
